RAINFOREST ACTIVITY 3

WHERE IN THE WORLD . . . ?

Rainforests are found on every continent of the world except Antarctica
To prepare for this activity, watch the Life in the World’s Tropical Rainforests slideshow on the introductory page and download the game board and tiles. If you need to go back to the introductory page, click the button at the bottom of this page.

NAME THAT RAINFOREST!

On what continent do these rainforest animals live?

RESEARCH AND EXPLORE

Now, looking at the game tiles from your Life in the World’s Tropical Rainforest game, can you guess which rainforests the animals in the tiles come from?

If you do a little online research, can you find out…

    1. The names of the continents
    2. The names of the countries
    3. The names of the rainforests

The map below can serve as a guide for knowing where the world’s rainforests are located. But be aware that this is a map of the worldwide distribution of nonhuman primates and not all primates live in rainforests! So, for example, although some monkeys live in northern Africa, there are no rainforests there. In fact, it’s mostly desert. But what about the middle of Africa? Bingo! Rainforests.

WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION OF NONHUMAN PRIMATES

RAINFORESTS ARE ENDANGERED

Now, go even further. Do more research to learn:

    1. Why are the world’s rainforests endangered?
    2. What does that mean for the animals who live in them?
    3. What does it mean for us?

SOME RAINFOREST ANIMALS ARE ENDANGERED AND SOME ARE NOT

    1. What are the conservation statuses of the animals in the species tiles?
    2. What are the conservation statuses of the other rainforest animals that you’ve researched and learned about?
